ESPN thinks one of the more polarizing players in the NFL could be a good free agent fit with the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason.
The national sports publication recently listed the best fits for each of the top 50 free agents.
And they think wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr would be a good fit with the Chiefs.
Here's why ESPN says this move would make sense:
The Chiefs were in on Beckham during his midseason free-agency tour. He has to sign with a contender with high-level quarterback play, and Kansas City needs juice opposite Tyreek Hill. Plus, tight end Travis Kelce turns 33 in October. But any team interested would have to consider the injury history, after Beckham suffered an injury to his left knee in the Super Bowl.
And here's how ESPN says OBJ would fit Kansas City's scheme:
We like Beckham in the Chiefs' pass-game structure as a viable No. 3 target for Patrick Mahomes. A nuanced and savvy route runner, Beckham can win isolation matchups or be schemed as a catch-and-run option on the leveled concepts in the Kansas City playbook.

ESPN might like this option for KC, but I'm not sure it makes sense like they think it does.
Beckham suffered a torn ACL — the same ACL he tore in 2020 — in the Los Angeles Rams' win against the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI. He's set to have surgery "soon" to repair the torn ACL. Assuming everything goes perfect, we shouldn't expect to see OBJ return to game action until mid-December — at the earliest.
And then, who knows how he'll perform. Why would Kansas City sign OBJ to a deal not knowing if he'll even play in 2022 and beyond?
The other reason this doesn't make sense is because we don't know how Beckham would fit with the Chiefs' culture. Drama has seemed to follow Beckham throughout his career. And even though I don't think it's always been Beckham's fault, I don't think it's worth the risk of messing up the locker room vibe for a player who might not even be able to contribute.
I'd be surprised if the Chiefs even explore signing OBJ. There are plenty of other options out there if the team wants another wide receiver.
