The Chiefs lost Charvarius Ward and Mike Hughes so far in free agency. But they're trying to offset at least one of those two guys, per recent reports.

Per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Kansas City has been in active talks with former All-Pro cornerback Stephen Gilmore as a potential addition to the team. Gilmore, widely considered to be the NFL's best corner at one point in time, is currently a free agent after a midseason trade sent him to the Panthers in 2021.

Schultz also says the Chiefs are interested in trading for Giants cornerback James Bradberry, who has one Pro Bowl under his belt. Bradberry has 10 interceptions over the last three seasons and is one of the most underrated corners in the NFL. His ability to shadow certain receivers would be a huge positive for the Chiefs defense.

Schultz isn't the only one who's reported KC's interest in these two. Pro Football Network's Aaron Wilson reported the same thing earlier Saturday.

The Chiefs have a decent amount of cap room after trading Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins, so both corners are at play. Kansas City could even land both players if they are creative in their approach toward Gilmore's contract and in the potential trade for Bradberry.

Bradberry would be a bit more difficult to land due to his $13.4 million base salary. However, the Giants are fine with eating some of Bradberry's salary in order to trade him. Bradberry is also in the last year of his deal. Meaning, the Chiefs could give the 28-year-old an extension, which would allow them to spread out whatever remains of Bradberry's salary over the additional years.

The Chiefs have a need at the position and they also have money and plenty of draft picks. It will be interesting to see how this develops over the coming days.
