The San Francisco 49ers will obviously have representation at the NFL Scouting Combine this week, but their head coach won't be in attendance.
Kyle Shanahan will not attend the week of interviews and workouts in Indianapolis, NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco reported on Monday.
No member of the Niners' coaching staff will be in attendance at the Combine, with duties instead left to general manager John Lynch and the scouting staff.
While staying in the Bay Area, Shanahan is expected to complete three more interviews for the 49ers' vacant defensive coordinator position.
Shanahan has already interviewed former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley along with an internal candidate, defensive passing game specialist/nickels coach Nick Sorensen.
He is set to interview another in-house coach, defensive backs coach Daniel Bullocks, and two unnamed external candidates.
Shanahan has previously skipped the Combine in 2022 and 2023, though the difference this year is that the Niners do have a first-round pick. However, he could still take part in interviews virtually, while the Top 30 visits have proven extremely valuable for the 49ers under Lynch and Shanahan.
In 2022, five of their draft picks were hosted by the 49ers on Top 30 visits. Last year, the number was four, including top selection Ji'Ayir Brown.
So without much reason to attend, Shanahan can focus, at least primarily, on his most pressing task.

A potential steal late in round two.
