In an expected move, the Kansas City Chiefs have released WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling ahead of the 2024 league year.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the Chiefs have released Valdes-Scantling in a salary-cap clearing move, creating $12 million in space with just $2 million in dead money. Valdes-Scantling was the only cap casualty expected for Kansas City because of the large amount of savings against the cap the team could get.

The savings will give Kansas City around $29 million in available cap space heading into the 2023 NFL season. This move is expected to pave the way for the application of the franchise tag for CB L'Jarius Sneed

Valdes-Scantling signed a three-year deal worth up to $30 million during the 2022 NFL offseason after the team shipped WR Tyreek Hill off to the Miami Dolphins. Valdes-Scantling has been the primary deep threat on the team since.

During his two seasons with the Chiefs, he won back-to-back Super Bowl titles. He appeared in 33 regular season games and seven postseason games. In that span, Valdes-Scantling recorded 78 receptions for 1,252 yards and six touchdowns. After a tough regular season campaign in 2023, Valdes-Scantling really turned it on and made some big plays during the run to their latest Super Bowl LVIII championship.
