Kansas City Chiefs hosting multiple players for tryouts Friday, including former Cowboys and Cardinals tight end
The Kansas City Chiefs will have at least two players in the building for tryouts on Friday, September 4. Former Cowboys and Cardinals TE Rivaldo Fairweather is set to join former Broncos WR Cameron Ross.
Kansas City Chiefs are hosting multiple players for tryouts on Friday, September the 4th.
The first report came in earlier this week that the Chiefs would host wide receiver Cameron Ross, formerly of the Denver Broncos. Now, we’ve learned that Kansas City is also hosting tight end Rivaldo Fairweather, formerly of the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals. According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the Chiefs will host Fairweather on Friday. He’ll head to Indianapolis for a visit with the Colts next Tuesday, assuming a deal with K.C. is not reached.
Listed at 6-foot-3 and 246 pounds, Fairweather was an undrafted free agent following the 2025 NFL Draft out of Auburn. He appeared in 51 games over five seasons for FIU and Auburn, catching 123 passes for 1,604 yards and 13 touchdowns. He originally signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 2025 following the draft.
Fairweather’s path from Dallas to Arizona to a Chiefs tryout
Fairweather had five catches and a touchdown during the 2025 preseason with the Cowboys. That opportunity didn’t earn him a spot on the 53-man roster. However, Dallas re-signed him to the practice squad after 53-man roster cuts that year. He’d remain on the practice squad for the majority of the season. The Arizona Cardinals signed him off the Cowboys’ practice squad in December of 2025.
This year, Fairweather was among the Cardinals’ roster cuts. That came after recording 17 catches for 150 yards during the preseason. The 23-year-old clearly has some developmental upside and could be a strong practice squad stash for a team like Kansas City that already has four tight ends on the 53-man roster.
Why Fairweather makes sense for the Chiefs’ tight end room
The future of the Chiefs’ tight end position is very much up in the air. Travis Kelce may be playing his final season with the team. Having developmental players waiting in the wings to compete for a roster spot down the line would benefit Kansas City.
Fairweather is a big target who does well in the trenches but also brings some yards-after-the-catch ability. He had a strong preseason showing against the Green Bay Packers this year, which is likely why the Chiefs are taking an interest. If Fairweather can flash enough during his tryout, he could land on the practice squad and develop behind one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history.
Fairweather might not be the only tight end the team brings in for tryouts on Friday. We know they’ll have at least two players in attendance, both on offense. It stands to reason they’ll have several players in for tryouts and evaluation.
