Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid’s L’Jarius Sneed admission is something that Tennessee Titans fans don’t want to hear
The Kansas City Chiefs have cornerback L’Jarius Sneed back on their roster, and they think he could still be one of the best in the league.
The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to bounce back in 2026. Last year was the worst season they have had in the Patrick Mahomes era. It’s also the worst season of the Andy Reid era. But they have made the necessary changes needed to get back on the horse and continue competing.
We all know about the offensive issues that plagued this team last season. Not having a running game and the receivers not playing well was a constant recipe for disaster. Not to mention, the offensive line was decimated by injuries. But the defense had their issues, too. And coming into this season, the microscope was on the secondary. The Chiefs traded away a top-three CB in the league, Trent McDuffie. How would they replace that?
The biggest storyline was the drafting of Mansoor Delane. The No. 6 overall pick is going to be a star. But he’s not the only addition the team made. Kansas City added Alohi Gilman, Jadon Canady, and a familiar face in L’Jarius Sneed. Last time Sneed was here, he was considered a top-five CB in the league. Things haven’t been great since he left. He’s been fighting with injuries, and his play on the field has suffered. But the Chiefs have a luxury with him.
“Yeah, well, he can play inside or outside,” Andy Reid told reporters when asked about having Sneed back healthy. “That’s the advantage you gain there with him. He loves doing both, but I mean, I think in his size, he’s a big kid, tough. I mean, arguably one of the best corners in the league. I mean, when he left here, and now that he’s back healthy and going, I mean, I tell you, he’s playing like that right now. So he’s doing a nice job.”

Reid saying that the team is seeing a version of Sneed that we haven’t seen in some time is amazing. The Chiefs couldn’t afford to pay him along with the other guys who were up for deals around that time. So, they traded him to the Tennessee Titans on March 29, 2024, in exchange for draft pick compensation and a lucrative four-year contract extension. Tennessee never got to see that version of him that Reid is talking about. So, if that version is back, you know Titans fans across Nashville will be pissed to see it happen.
But that could be something that was always bound to happen. Of course, Sneed could end up being better back with the Chiefs than he was in Tennessee. After all, KC does have Steve Spagnuolo. He’s one of, if not the best, defensive coordinators in the league’s history. He always gets the best out of his players. We see far too many times a player leaves and plays worse, or comes to Kansas City and plays better. That’s not a shot at the player, but it’s true. Spags just knows how to get the best and put them in the best situations.
In his last two years with the Titans, he’s played 339 coverage snaps, per Sports Info Solutions. That’s not a lot, and that’s because of injuries. That’s why Reid mentioning having him back healthy is key. He was targeted 44 times in those two seasons and allowed 23 catches for 388 receiving yards. Sneed also allowed four touchdowns in those two years. Now, interceptions don’t mean everything, but he didn’t have any with the Titans. He had ten in four years with the Chiefs, including four dropped interceptions. The Chiefs are hoping to get a player like that back in Sneed.
