The College Football quarterback carousel sent several top names to new places this offseason, but the most exciting new starting signal callers may actually be some of the young breakout stars.
When Jesse Simonton of On3 Sports was asked about which young quarterback he's most excited to see starting this year on the Andy Staples Show he immediately stated that, "it's hard not to say Nico [Iamaleava]" and that the "expectations are sky high for him."
For more on Nico, other top young quarterbacks, and complete breakdown you can check out the Andy Staples post below.
Nico Iamaleava of course absolutely dominated Iowa in his first career start for Tennessee in the Citrus Bowl on New Year's Day, scoring four total touchdowns in the 35-0 victory over the Hawkeyes. That performance only amplified the already quite optimistic expectations that Tennessee Volunteers fans had for the young five star quarterback.
Simonton went on to say, "We saw two years ago with Hendon Hooker, the possibility of Tennessee, and what that program is capable of if you have one of these fighter pilots at quarterback."
Josh Heupel's offense at Tennessee has been an overall astoundingly consistent success through the air. Between just Hendon Hooker and Joe Milton, Vols starting quarterbacks have thrown 90 touchdowns to just 10 interceptions since the start of 2021. If Nico Iamaleava is the five star talent everyone expects him to be then there's absolutely no reason the Tennessee Vols can't find their way to the College Football Playoff here soon.
