The Tennessee Titans have their work cut out for them this offseason after finishing 6-11, last in the AFC South in 2023. Titans General Manager Ran Carthon will need to have an amazing 2024 NFL Draft if he wants to help build the team back into the competitive AFC 1-seed they were just a few short years ago.
But where to begin in this year's draft? Many fans want the Titans to start with the offensive line in round one. Others want an offensive playmaker to help Will Levis take the next step in his development.
Brock Bowers was the first round selection in a seven round mock draft for the Titans this week and he's already expressed that he would love to play in Tennessee if he had his choice. That comment from Bowers already has some fans loving him as the Titans' potential first round pick.
The former two-time John Mackey award winner and national champion Georgia Bulldog dominated college football in each of his three years. In fact he was the most productive tight end through their first three seasons in college football history.
If that wasn't enough, now he's garnering comparisons to Tennessee Titans legend, Delanie Walker. Brett Kollman, a well-known NFL Draft expert, believes Bowers and Walker are quite similar. He went on to say that Bowers could be "one of the best 30 tight ends to ever walk the earth" just like Walker in his follow-up to the post below.
Neither Walker or Bowers possess prototypical 6'5", 250-pound frames as tight ends. And just like Walker featured as the de facto WR1 for the Titans for several years, Bowers already has plenty experience as the team target hog as well. He easily led Georgia in receiving yards three years in a row.
Prime Delanie Walker was making plays all over the field for the Titans. He could take an end-around out of the backfield for a score, burn teams up the seam, and out-physical anyone on short-range targets. He was a monster.
But where does the Bowers comparison match best? They both absolutely dominate(d) on intermediate targets. Walker and Bowers are deadly efficient just past the sticks, averaging 6+ yards after the catch and over 12 yards per route run on targets between 10 and 19 yards down field in their best seasons.
After Bowers runs his forty-yard dash under 4.5 seconds at the NFL Combine here soon the Walker comparisons will likely only escalate. If Brock Bowers does indeed land with the Titans he should immediately become one of the most productive stars in the league. It will be tough to match what Delanie Walker did for the Titans, but Bowers might just be up to the task.
