The Seattle Seahawks missed the playoffs in the 2023 season, and they are unsurprisingly not expected to contend in 2024.

DraftKings released the opening Super Bowl odds for all 32 teams, and they don't make for pretty reading for Seattle.

Indeed, the Seahawks are +6500 to win the Super Bowl in New Orleans next February.

Only 11 teams in the NFL have worse odds than Seattle.

That is no surprise given the Seahawks head into 2024 with a new coaching staff having dispensed with the services of Pete Carroll and hired Mike MacDonald. 

While MacDonald is highly regarded, it will be a very difficult ask for him to come in and immediately turn a Seattle team with several holes on both sides of the ball into an immediate contender.

Seattle's odds are in stark contrast to their NFC West rivals the San Francisco 49ers, who at +550 are the Super Bowl 59 favorites having lost Super Bowl 58 in overtime to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fellow division rivals the Los Angeles Rams, who lost in the wild card round of the postseason to the Detroit Lions, have slightly better odds than Seattle at +3500.

In essence, the oddsmakers see the NFC West as a division with one true contender. Seattle used to be the dominant force in the division, now the Seahawks' challenge under MacDonald is to set about narrowing the gap to the Niners and prove they are worthy of being taken seriously again in the near future.
