The New Orleans Saints will battle the salary cap once again during this offseason. They currently sit nearly $84 million over the cap, according to OverTheCap.
It will not be easy, but they assuredly have a path to cap compliance. They have some moves they could make to create some space to sign a group of notable free agents, too. New Orleans will also need to sign their draft class once the 2024 NFL Draft concludes. For now, they got some potentially important news on Monday.
According to ProFootballTalk, the salary cap could be closer to $250 million. Others expect it to be around $242-243 million, but a potential higher total is possible.
The Saints will hope that the cap number is as high as possible. Simply put, they need all the help they can get to dig themselves out of the hole that they have continued to dig over the past handful of years.
Veterans will need to restructure their deals, many of which have done so before. Additionally, a restructure of Derek Carr's deal seems likely. That would tie Carr to New Orleans for the next two seasons, in all likelihood.

The final cap number is likely to be announced in the next couple of weeks. Final negations may occur at the NFL Scouting Combine.
New Orleans will keep a closely on that. Expect them to start making some more moves quite soon in order to size up what all they'll need to do to become cap compliant.
The Michael Thomas era with the Saints needs to be over
They both need to move on.
