The Seattle Seahawks likely aren't going to be in a position to draft one of the top quarterbacks in the 2024 class.
But any future speculation about a potential move up for Geno Smith's successor, assuming they don't see him as the long-term answer, may have a little more weight to it following Seattle's latest coaching hire.
New head coach Mike MacDonald continues to fill out his staff on both sides of the ball.
On the offensive side, his latest move could be viewed as an intriguing one as it pertains to the draft. The Seahawks, per Mark McClune of KPHO in Phoenix, are hiring Zak Hill as an offensive assistant.
A native of the Pacific Northwest who spent his collegiate playing career as a quarterback for Central Washington, Hill's last job was as the head coach for Saguaro high school in Arizona.
However, he has experience as an offensive coordinator at the college level, first with Boise State and, more notably, with Arizona State from 2020 to 2021.
Arizona State's quarterback during that time was Jayden Daniels, who subsequently transferred to LSU and, after a Heisman Trophy-winning 2023 campaign, could go with one of the top three picks.
For the Seahawks to get in the mix for Daniels would likely require a massive move up the board from their current spot of 16th overall in the first round.
With the Seahawks having clear holes on both sides of the ball, the odds of Seattle spending significant draft capital to go up and get Daniels appear slim.
But the hiring of Hill, with his connections to Daniels, could bring about such chatter as draft season kicks into high gear.
