The Tennessee Volunteers earned a lot of positive attention after last week, knocking off the Kentucky Wildcats 103-92 last Saturday and following that up with a 88-68 win over LSU on Wednesday.
Those wins were enough to push Tennessee up to a 1 seed in ESPN's Joe Lunardi's bracketology projections. The vols unseated the Arizona Wildcats for the last top seed.
It didn't take long for those roles to reverse. The Vols are now a 2 seed again in Lunardi's updated projections, with Arizona rising back to the top line again.
It's really not all that surprising, and the move was honestly warranted. Tennessee looked absolutely nothing like an NCAA one seed in College Station on Saturday night, falling 85-69 to the Texas A&M Aggies. Texas A&M had a field day from beyond the arc, particularly in the first half, sinking eight on the way to a 42-28 halftime lead. They'd build a lead of 22 points in the second half.
Bracketology is a fickle and fleeting thing, and there's still plenty of time to turn it in for Tennessee. The Vols end their regular season with games against four ranked teams, so they will have the chance between those games and the SEC tournament to make an impact on the selection committee.
However, the Vols must also avoid bad losses, and that begins on Wednesday night on the road against a bad Arkansas team. If this team indeed hopes to become the school's first ever earn a one seed – as well as make the Final Four – they need to take care of business on the road against teams like the Hogs.
