Former Tennessee 1B Andrew Fischer just added his name to the record books, and another former Vol made history in the same game
Two VFLs just had unforgettable nights in the same game.
Fans of the Tennessee Vols didn’t get to watch first baseman Andrew Fischer on their team for too terribly long. Fischer came over from Ole Miss in the transfer portal after the 2024 season.
But what the Vols got was one of the most productive power hitters in all of college baseball, as well as one of the most lively personalities in the sport. That made Fischer a quick fan favorite in Knoxville and gave Vol fans reason to continue to keep an eye on his professional career in Milwaukee. The Brewers picked Fischer in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft.
And fans could be getting a look at the outstanding young prospect at the Major League level much sooner than later if Fischer’s torrid play in 2026 continues.
On Friday night in Chattanooga, Fischer slugged his 30th home run of the season. That made him just the second Brewers minor leaguer this century to reach that mark and the first since the 2001 season, according to Fischer’s team, the Biloxi Shuckers announced.

Fischer now has 30 home runs and 70 RBIs to go with a batting average of .283 and a pristine OPS of 1.086 between high-A and double-A minor league ball this year. Pretty strong, to say the least.
The VFL is making it impossible for a promotion to not happen sooner than later. He put himself on the map back at the World Baseball Classic with a strong showing with semifinalist Italy. Now, he’s making a case that should have folks in Milwaukee watching him even more closely.
Blake Burke matched a Biloxi Shuckers team record with three home runs
But Fischer wasn’t the only former Vol crushing the ball over the fence on Friday night in Chattanooga.
Former Vols College World Series hero Blake Burke was having batting practice himself against the Lookouts’ hapless pitchers. He clubbed three home runs, which tied the single-game record for the team. The Shuckers’ seven home runs as a team set a new team record as well.
Burke has slugged 24 home runs and 71 RBIs with a .273 average and .944 OPS in 82 games this season for the Shuckers.
The time is coming for both men to realize their dreams of playing in the big leagues, and if they keep crushing the ball like they have, it could be sooner than some think.
