The New Orleans Saints are joining a new style for their offense. Their expected offensive coordinator is Klint Kubiak, and he comes from the 'Kyle Shanahan coaching tree' that has gained steam around the NFL.
For good reason, Shanahan's San Francisco 49ers are in the Super Bowl once again, and their offense is one of the most intriguing to watch on a yearly basis. Kubiak's scheme will look much different from Pete Carmichael Jr.'s offensive scheme, and Saints weapons should be excited.
Star wide receiver Chris Olave seems confident about the changes coming to the team's offense, according to Chris Rosvoglou.
Kubiak's offense will be more modern, and that will favor players like Olave, Rashid Shaheed, and Alvin Kamara – to name a few. Olave is a fan of Kubiak's style of offense.
“I feel like that’s where NFL offenses are heading… The 49ers offense, the Rams offense. That’s what’s going on more in today’s game. You know what plays are coming in certain coverages with different motions and things that setup the defense to make it look different. I’m definitely excited to see what way we’re heading and where we’re going next season.” — Olave via The Spun
New Orleans will need better performances at every level of their offense for the new plays and style to work, though.
Derek Carr and the offensive line must be more consistent, but the modern aspects of the offense could help that become more manageable. With more motion and play action, there could be more open space for both the run and pass game of the Saints.
Regardless, it is a good sign that the Saints' most important young, offensive playmaker is on board with the new coach.
