San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings, a former Tennessee Vols standout, wasn't on the winning side in Super Bowl LVIII, but he still became a national sensation thanks to his performance in the big game.
Jennings was on pace to win the MVP award in the Super Bowl had the 49ers been able to squeak out a win against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The former Vols wide receiver threw for a touchdown in the first half and he caught a touchdown in the second half. He also had a key third down reception. While superstars like tight end Greg Kittle shrank in the spotlight, Jennings thrived on football's biggest stage.
Jennings' touchdown reception in the second half, which temporarily gave the 49ers the lead, led to San Francisco linebacker Fred Warner telling teammate Chase Young on the sideline that Jennings is one of the best players he's ever played with.
“I’ve been saying he’s one of the best football players I ever played with," said Warner during the game.
I'm not sure there's anyone in the NFL that plays with as much effort as Jennings. And that's why it seems inevitable that the 49ers will reward Jennings with some sort of contract extension this offseason — there's no doubt that the former seventh round draft pick deserves a nice pay day.
