Tennessee defensive lineman Xavier Gilliam, who has been described as the best defensive player in college football, finally said what Vols fans have been waiting on him to say.

Before the season started, Gilliam, who transferred from Penn State to Tennessee last January, was asked how he thought the atmosphere at Neyland Stadium would be, and how he thought it might compare to Penn State’s atmosphere.

“Penn State, I don’t want to be biased, but it sets a high ceiling,” said Gilliam. “But I’ve heard a lot of great things about Neyland, so just really looking to experience it for myself.”

Now that Gilliam has played a few games in Neyland Stadium, he’s ready to admit that it’s louder than Penn State’s Beaver Stadium.

“I’m not going to be biased,” said Gilliam on the Heisman Hopefuls podcast when asked to compare the two stadiums. “But playing in that Texas game, Neyland Stadium was rocking. Even when we played Auburn, the stadium was rocking. I would definitely have to say that I do feel like Neyland is a little bit louder.”

There’s no doubt that Penn State has an incredible atmosphere, but it’s hard to top what Neyland Stadium offers on Saturdays.
