Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh has flirted with a return to the NFL in recent years, but it feels like this is the offseason that he might actually step down as the Wolverines' head coach.

And if that happens, it could lead to some good recruiting news for the Tennessee Vols.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Harbaugh is scheduled to meet with the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday to discuss their head coach opening.

The Chargers job has long been viewed as the most likely NFL destination for Harbaugh thanks to a roster that includes a former Pro Bowl quarterback in Justin Herbert.

Plus, there's the fact that Harbaugh played for the Chargers in 1999 and 2000, so he has some connections to the franchise.

If Harbaugh leaves Michigan, it would create another huge opening in college football.

And LSU head coach Brian Kelly would be an ideal option to fill it.

Kelly, who just wrapped up his second season at LSU, is a natural fit for the Michigan job. He coached in the state of Michigan from 1987 to 2006. He also spent time in nearby Ohio (Cincinnati) and Indiana (Notre Dame) before landing in Baton Rouge in late 2021.

The former Notre Dame head coach has a good thing going at LSU, but Michigan might be the one job that could steal him away from the Tigers.

If that's what transpires, it could lead to five-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley decommitting From LSU.

Tennessee was expected to receive a visit from McKinley in January before he signs in February. But he unexpectedly committed to LSU on New Year's Eve. If Kelly leaves for Michigan, the Vols would likely be right back in the mix to land the five-star defensive lineman. In fact, I'd even go as far as saying that Tennessee would be the favorites since McKinley already has a solid relationship with the Vols' coaching staff.

A lot has to happen for Tennessee to have another shot at McKinley. But Harbaugh to the Chargers and Kelly to Michigan are very real scenarios that could happen this week.
