When the Las Vegas Raiders hired their new general manager, Tom Telesco, a lot of fans were weary of the decisions. However, it's safe to say they are warming up to the idea of the former division rival being the guy to try and build the Raiders an elite roster, much like he did with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Did things end well with him in Los Angeles? No. He put the team in a terrible cap situation and was likely fired for that very reason. He seems to have good intentions with the Raiders, though. He sounded like he knew what his plan was, and he believed he could get there.
Most importantly, he has a sense of humor, as he revealed his favorite thing about not working for the Chargers anymore.
"What's going to be nice is not having to block Maxx Crosby anymore," Telesco said during his introductory press conference. "He's almost unblockable. I've seen very few players like him."
Telesco also talked about the Raiders' defense and how much improved they are. He thinks the defense is ready to compete while the offense needs work.
"I know this past year, the defense really made it run," Telesco said. "I loved how the defense played this past year, both the scheme of what they played and the players and how they played. Offensively, there were some ups and downs, but that's stuff we'll have to focus on a lot in the offseason. We're not going to ignore the defense, obviously, but there are a lot of pieces here."
The Raiders' defense overperformed, and a big reason why is because of defensive coordinator Patrick Graham. The roster before the season started looked like one that would be bad throughout the year. Then, as soon as Antonio Pierce takes over, you see the defense locking up these teams. It was great to see.
The Raiders will need that back next year but will also need the offense to step up. With Telesco being the one who brings talent in and makes this roster better, we could likely see that happen.

Now the Raiders must build out their staff.
