He's already set to miss the AFC Championship Game, but Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro Left Guard Joe Thuney also isn't given to play in Super Bowl LVIII if his team were to advance to the big game.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Thuney received varying opinions on the prognosis of his pectoral injury. Some doctors believe that he suffered a torn pec, while others believe it's just a strain. The varying opinions appear to be making it difficult for Thuney to figure out how exactly to proceed. Surgery is among the options that are currently being considered, in which case, Thuney would certainly be ruled out for the big game.
Rapoport says that playing in the Super Bowl is going to be a stretch.
Thuney is in the midst of his third season in Kansas City, boasting 49 career regular season starts and eight career postseason starts. He's been somewhat of an Iron Man throughout his NFL career, so this is surely a disappointing outcome for him. We'll see how things progress, but fans shouldn't get their hopes up about his return this postseason.
Fifth-year veteran O-Lineman Nick Allegretti is expected to start in Thuney's place for the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens. Allegretti proved last week that he's more than capable of filling in for Thuney. His teammates view him as a sixth starter on the offensive line, knowing that he has plenty of experience and has played in some big games for this team beforehand.
