With a 34-31 win over the Detroit Lions, the San Francisco 49ers will face the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, and they'll be looking for some revenge.
During the 2019-20 NFL season, the Chiefs made an improbable postseason run to appear in Super Bowl LIV. They came back down deficits in each of their postseason games to punch their ticket to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. There, Patrick Mahomes ended 50 years of misery for an entire fanbase, helping Kansas City to a historic 31-20 victory over the 49ers, leading the team back from a 10-point deficit.
This is a much different 49ers team and a much different Chiefs team, but you can sure bet that Kyle Shanahan isn't going to let his team forget what happened the last time around. They're going to be ready for this matchup and know exactly the challenge that lies before them.
Brock Purdy has played against Kansas City just once during his 49ers career, during Week 7 of the 2022 NFL season. He completed four of nine passes for 66 yards and an interception in the fourth quarter after replacing then-49ers-starting QB Jimmy Garappolo. He has a lot more starting experience under his belt now than he did back then, but this will be a key matchup to watch as Steve Spagnuolo's defense has been absolutely brutal to play against this season.
Charles Omenihu makes Chiefs’ win even better with promising injury update
The Kansas City Chiefs seem to have avoided a significant blow to the defensive line during their AFC Championship Game win over the Baltimore Ravens.
