The Kansas City Chiefs are heading to the Super Bowl again. Had it not been for an offsides call and an overtime loss, we would be talking about six straight Super Bowl appearances, which is just crazy to think about. Now, Mahomes has been to four Super Bowls in six years.
This time, though, is against the same team he won his first against, the San Francisco 49ers, who won the NFC Championship Game in comeback fashion as they trailed 24-7 at home to the Detroit Lions.
There are a lot of things that are different since that game, though. The 49ers do not have the same quarterback, as Jimmy Garoppolo has since gone to the Las Vegas Raiders and gotten benched.
Deebo Samuel, the 49ers' best receiver, and Nick Bosa, their best edge rusher, were rookies when they played in the Super Bowl last. The 49ers also did not have Christian McCaffrey or the defensive line they have now. One of the only real things that is the same is George Kittle and Fred Warner still being two of the very best in the league at their position.
However, there is one thing that will stay the same.
In 2019, or Super Bowl 54, the Chiefs wore their red tops with white pants, while the 49ers wore their white tops with gold pants. So, this game could look very similar to what we saw in 2019 in terms of how the broadcast will look on the screen with what both teams are wearing. It won't be on the same channel, though, as CBS has this broadcast rather than Fox.
The Chiefs were down by 10 points at one point in the fourth quarter during that game. Like every playoff game they played that season, they ended up having a comeback and winning by 10 points. Let's hope the end result is the same this time around.
