The Seattle Seahawks officially opened up a new era on Wednesday, as they named Mike Macdonald as their next head coach.

Macdonald is coming off of a two-season run as defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens. He anchored a Ravens defense that led the NFL in points per game allowed (16.5) in the regular season this year.

Roquan Smith was among multiple players who upped their game under Macdonald. From dropping back in coverage to helping to stop the run, Smith emerged as a do-it-all linebacker over the last two seasons.

The Seahawks’ official X account shared a post on Friday of three Ravens players bidding one final goodbye to Macdonald. Among them, Smith took some time to thank Macdonald for all of his contributions while with the Ravens.

"Mike, so excited for you," Smith said. "I know how hard you work, day in, day out to get the results. And you know, kind of sad, bittersweet to see you go because I was looking forward to so many more years.

"It felt like Seattle took a huge part of me away. But hey, really excited for you, bro. I know you and your wife are going to do amazing up there. You're gonna enjoy it. And I know Seahawks Nation, or whatever you guys call it, are gonna do awesome. And, they're grateful to have you so, much love and much respect, my guy."

It did not take long for the Ravens to find Macdonald’s replacement, as they named Zachary Orr as their new defensive coordinator on Thursday. Orr served as Baltimore’s inside linebackers coach over the past two seasons.
