Another year, and another gut-punch to end the season for the Buffalo Bills. Though they've unfortunately been here now every year since 2019, this year will bring on a litany of new challenges.

Buffalo has over 20 players that will be unrestricted free agents when the new league year begins in March. They are also roughly $44 million over the salary cap, which is the third worst number in the NFL.

Between getting their money right, and adding quality players to make a Super Bowl run, the Bills will have a full plate this offseason, and these should be the three bullet points at the top of their to-do list:

Sign/draft an alpha pass rusher

The Bills' biggest weakness defensively over the last half-decade is they can't get to the quarterback by only rushing with four. They also are a middle of the pack team in terms of how often they blitz. That's fine in the regular season and against bad teams, but they need to build this roster to beat the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes is elite at beating teams when you blitz him. If you can't get pressure while sending four pass defenders, he'll eat you alive. That's why the Bills signed Von Miller, but he has fallen off a cliff after his knee injury. They could draft another edge rusher, but their track record in doing so over the last few seasons hasn't been great. Money will need moved around, but they need a proven force off the edge.

Restructure the deals of Josh Allen and Von Miller

This one is plain and simple. The Bills need to free up cap space, and they can do so by restructuring the deals of Allen and Miller. According to Spotrac, if the Bills converted both Allen and Miller's deals to their respective minimum allowances, it would save them $30 million against the cap. Those two moves would immediately put them in much better shape entering free agency.

Trade Tre'Davious White

White is a terrific player, and a huge reason why the Bills turned the ship around over the last decade, but this is a move that should be made. He's missed 30 games in the last three seasons, and has played in just 10 games since 2022. With the emergence of both Rasul Douglas and Christian Benford, moving White to save $6 million against the cap, and gaining draft capital in return is the best possible outcome for the Bills.
