The Tennessee Vols' top 2025 recruiting target is five-star quarterback George MacIntyre.

And when news broke last week that Nick Saban was retiring as Alabama's head coach, it felt like it all but guaranteed that Tennessee will land MacIntyre.

MacIntyre, the No. 2 quarterback in the nation, is down to Alabama and Tennessee. And without Saban in the picture, it seems inevitable that he'll pick the Vols.

New Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, however, quickly made it known this week that the Crimson Tide are still recruiting MacIntyre despite Saban's retirement.

MacIntyre tweeted on Monday evening that DeBoer re-offered him.

Even though Alabama's new coaching staff re-offered MacIntyre, it still feels like the Vols are in the driver's seat for the talented five-star quarterback — specifically because of a comment that MacIntyre made recently to On3's Chad Simmons

"It is a one-on-one battle between two schools and it is very tight between those two," said MacIntyre earlier this month. "When I pick between those two, the head coach will matter a lot. Then the family feel, fit within the system and the culture are other key factors."

MacIntyre hasn't had much time to establish a relationship with DeBoer (Washington wasn't among MacIntyre's listed offers). And DeBoer hasn't been in Tuscaloosa long enough to establish a culture. MacIntyre has no idea what he'd be stepping into if he committed to Alabama.

I'm sure DeBoer will give MacIntyre some things to think about, but it seems unlikely that Alabama's new staff will be able to overcome MacIntyre's relationship with Vols head coach Josh Heupel and offensive coordinator Joey Halzle.
