Update: Gay Jr. has now been ruled out of the game.

The Kansas City Chiefs are seeing their defensive depth tested early against the Buffalo Bills.

Chiefs S Mike Edwards has already been ruled out of the game, but there are two other significant injuries that the team is now dealing with on the defensive side of the ball. LB Willie Gay Jr. was a late addition to the injury report on Friday with a neck injury. He received a questionable game status designation on Saturday. The fourth-year linebacker tried to give it a go, but according to CBS Sports sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson, Gay Jr. has retired to the locker room.

The team ruled him questionable to return to the game, pending further evaluation.

Gay Jr. is a massive piece for Kansas City in this game in particular because he was tasked with playing the spy role against Josh Allen. They've gone away from that on defense without him on the field.

In addition to the injury to Gay Jr., Chiefs CB Trent McDuffie briefly left the field due to what is being described as an ankle sprain by the CBS broadcast. He got his ankle taped up and is currently back in the game, but it'll be something to monitor moving forward.

The Chiefs have plenty of linebacker depth to fill in for Gay Jr. with Nick Bolton, Drue Tranquill, Leo Chenal, and Jack Cochrane.

The team is also quite deep at the cornerback position with Joshua Williams, Jaylen Watson, and Nic Jones available to fill in for McDuffie.
