The Kansas City Chiefs have been plagued by dropped passes throughout the 2023 NFL season.

The Chiefs finished the regular season with the most dropped passes in the league. Their 44 dropped passes on 597 pass attempts by Patrick Mahomes is good for a 6.9 percent dropped pass rate, also the most in the NFL. That suggests this isn't just a symptom of having one of the most pass-heavy offenses in the NFL under OC Matt Nagy and HC Andy Reid. This has been a real issue for Kansas City during the season, but those issues seem to be behind them now when the games matter most.

According the ESPN's Stats and Information, the Chiefs did not drop a single pass during the AFC Championship Game win over the Baltimore Ravens. It was the first game this season that they've gone without a dropped pass by a receiver per ESPN's Ed Werder.

Now, you might be thinking that Patrick Mahomes' first incomplete pass was a drop from Chiefs WR Richie James. I'm told that wasn't credited as a drop because of the throw from Mahomes.

WR Rashee Rice (8) and TE Travis Kelce (7) were both atop the dropped pass list for Kansas City this season. The two combined for 19 receptions on 20 targets for 162 yards and a touchdown against the Ravens. Even Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who struggled with dropped passes in key moments and caught a ton of grief for it this season, found some redemption. He caught the pass that would be the dagger against Baltimore.

Heading into Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers, the Chiefs are going to need to be as sharp as ever if they're to take home another Lombardi Trophy. That means the receivers will need to make a trend out of their recent sure-handedness.
