The Philadelphia Eagles will be in the market for a cornerback when the 2024 NFL Draft arrives and Toledo defensive back Quinyon Mitchell could be their answer.
Mitchell had a standout first day at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama and when he spoke to reporters on Tuesday, he said that he has been studying Eagles' Darius Slay throughout college.
"I watch a lot of football. I like Darius Slay," Mitchell said via AtoZ Sports' Sam Phalen. "He plays a lot of off [man coverage] and then press [man coverage], so I feel like he's real patient at the line. He's big and long and can run like me. … He's been doing it for a long time … playing at a high level for a long time.
"… I want to meet him."
Eagles Need to Plan for Future at Cornerback
The Eagles could use young talent like Mitchell in their secondary as they start planning for the future with Slay and James Bradberry heading toward contract outs at the end of the 2024 season.
At 6 foot and 195 pounds, Mitchell's size isn't too far off from Slay, who is the same height and weighs in at 190 pounds. Mitchell's arms, however, are slightly shorter, measuring 31.18 inches compared to Slay's 32.25 inch arms.
He finished his collegiate career registering 123 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one sack, 45 passes defended, and six interceptions. 37 of his pass breakups came in his final two years with the Rockets.
Mitchell is a projected early Day 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Eagles have nine draft picks this year and are projected to pick at No. 50 and No. 53 in the second round.
