Tennessee Vols true freshman linebacker Arion Carter will miss the rest of the 2023 season due a shoulder injury according to a report from VolQuest (which has more details about the injury).

Carter hasn't played since Tennessee's win against Kentucky in October.

The Vols' linebacker depth was already in a tough spot after losing BYU transfer Keenan Pili to an injury in Tennessee's season-opening win against Virginia.

Tennessee's depleted depth at linebacker was obvious during the Vols' 36-7 loss to the Missouri Tigers on Saturday afternoon in Columbia. UT's linebackers, specifically sophomore Elijah Herring, struggled to cover Missouri running back Cody Schrader, who totaled 321 yards against Tennessee.

Carter will be a key player for Tennessee in 2024 and beyond. He's an extremely talented player that Alabama's Nick Saban badly wanted during the 2023 recruiting cycle. Landing Carter over the Crimson Tide was a major recruiting win for Josh Heupel and the Vols.

The Smyrna, TN native mostly played running back in high school, so his true freshman season was largely about learning how to play linebacker in the SEC.
