New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers intends to come back during the 2023 regular season. According to NBC reporter Melissa Stark during the Sunday Night Football broadcast, the veteran player is targeting a mid-December return.

"I know it sounds insane," Rodgers told Stark. "But if you do a good surgery, have a good patient, it makes this possible."

Aaron Rodgers got hurt after four snaps and one throw for the New York Jets. He ruptured his Achilles, and the initial expectation was that he would miss the entire season.

But Rodgers made a surgery immediately thereafter, and his recovery looks to have gone well.

The Jets entered Sunday Night Football with a 4-4 record, so they still have a realistic shot at arriving in December fighting for a playoff spot, even if Zach Wilson is statistically one of the worst quarterbacks of the season.

Mid-December Jets schedule:

12/10: vs Houston Texans
12/17: at Miami Dolphins
12/24: vs Washington Commanders

The Jets acquired Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers right before the draft. The teams swapped first-round picks (13 for 15), and the Jets also gave up a second-rounder and a next year's conditional pick — as Rodgers won't play at least 65% of the offensive snaps this year, it will be a second-round pick in 2024.
