The Miami Dolphins could end up seeing New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers this season. If you believe what the future Hall of Famer is saying, of course.
NBC Sports' Melissa Stark said during last weekend's Sunday Night Football telecast that Rodgers told her that he's expecting a mid-December return date from his Achilles injury.
“He said, ‘I know it sounds insane, but you do a good surgery, you have a good patient, it makes this possible,’” Stark said during the broadcast.
Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon in the first series against the Buffalo Bills in the season opener. It was believed that surely he was done for the season, but Rodgers' rehab program and updates have opened the door of a possible return.
The Dolphins and Jets, who have not yet faced each other this season, are separated by two games in the AFC East through 10 weeks. The teams will face each other for the first time the day after Thanksgiving in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It appears Zach Wilson will continue to be the quarterback, per comments today from Jets head coach Robert Saleh.
The question is: who will be under center when the teams face off in a return matchup in Miami Gardens on December 17?
One has to possibly take Rodgers' comments with a grain of salt. After all, players are always highly optimistic about their return dates. Rodgers also isn't exactly a young lion anymore, so the team might want to take a cautious approach with their star quarterback.
However, if Rodgers is right about his return date, then it's within the realm of possibility that Miami fans see him jog out of the tunnel onto the Hard Rock Stadium field in uniform when the teams face off a second time.
