The Green Bay Packers saw star running back Aaron Jones go down with what looked to be a severe injury in the second quarter, but what compounded the situation was Jones' exasperated reaction as he laid on the field and was later helped off the field.
But, it may not be as bad as it initially seemed. Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said after the game that he doesn't think the injury is long-term.
"I don't think it's long-term. Certainly, I think it looked really bad – I was really concerned," LaFleur told reporters. "I've just seen it live, I didn't see a replay, or anything. But seeing it live, it did not look good. He's in good spirits in there and hopefully it's just a short-term deal."
Jones recorded 14 rushing yards on four carries and one reception for three yards on two targets before exiting the game.
We've kind of been down this road with Jones and the Packers before
And it's as relevant as this very season.
Jones injured his hamstring back in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears and immediately downplayed the severity of the injury.
“It was not a pull,” Jones told reporters after the game. “I’ve pulled my hamstring before and I didn’t really feel a pull. It was just a little bite. Thankful for it, [the Packers are] always looking out for my best interests.”
"Hopefully it was just a cramp there at the end, but we'll see and take a look at that," was LaFleur's take.
We'll see what happens, but it's clear Jones is going to miss some time. LaFleur also said that rookie running back Emanuel Wilson "doesn't look good" in terms of the shoulder injury he suffered a few plays after Jones got hurt.
"I don't think it looks good for him as well either," said LaFleur. "So we're going to be a little bit short at the running back position, but that's something that we'll figure out this week."
