With the latest news around the Arizona Cardinals, the Cleveland Browns defense will be chomping at the bit.

There is a very likely chance that the Browns will be facing rookie QB Clayton Tune in Week 9. It’ll be the fifth-round pick taking over for Joshua Dobbs, who Cleveland traded to Arizona for a fifth-round draft pick in 2024.

“Talked to all of the quarterbacks this morning. Going to keep ramping up Kyler (Murray) and see how he progresses through the week. If it’s not Kyler it’s going to be Clayton Tune,” said Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon.

The Cardinals have a 1-7 record and Dobbs has started each one of those games. Over that period of time, Dobbs had eight touchdown passes to five interceptions. The downfall is they were getting just 196 passing yards per game.

Tune was a productive quarterback in college at Houston who threw 40 touchdowns to 10 interceptions as a senior, along with 4,070 passing yards.

Anytime a defense can go up against a rookie in his first career start, they’re going to be up for the task. Tune has to go up against a front of Myles Garrett, Dalvin Tomlinson, Maurice Hurst, and potentially Za’Darius Smith if he is healthy enough to go.

The Cardinals will be on the road in Week 9 too, making it a bit tougher. Cleveland will certainly welcome the news that they could face a late-round rookie in his first game.
