The Seattle Seahawks have to be pinching themselves every time they watch Devon Witherspoon take the field this season.
The hype may have started out slow when we didn't get to see the rookie take the field much in the preseason, but it is fair to say that he has more than delivered since then.
As it stands, Witherspoon is one of the best corners in the NFL and is quickly on his way to winning Defensive Rookie of the Year. A trend is starting to form here.
While different players that approach the position in different ways, it is hard not to compare Sauce Gardner and Devon Witherspoon.
Gardner looked like the runaway DROY from early last year as well, and there were also long stretches of last season where Gardner was recognized as one of the best corners in football.
The same thing is happening to Witherspoon this season.
Once Seattle's first pick in the 2023 NFL Draft started going, there was no slowing down. It doesn't matter the matchup, the game, or the look. Witherspoon is going to be there to make the play in the big moments.
If the season keeps playing out as it has so far, Witherspoon should be the easy favorite for one of the most prestigious awards given to a rookie and could also get some impressive All-Pro votes as well.
Assuming this does happen, NFL teams are going to be paying a lot more attention to the corner position early in drafts after having some clear evidence over the past two seasons that a stud rookie corner can make an impact from Day 1.
A trend is forming, and the Seahawks are surely happy to see that they got on board when they did.
