For the last month or so, Tennessee Vols fans have had a request for UT head coach Josh Heupel.

Give kick/punt returner Dee Williams some reps on offense.

Williams, who returned a punt for a touchdown in the Vols' win against Texas A&M last month, is electric with the ball in his hands. But he's been limited to return opportunities so far during his time at Tennessee (Williams arrived at UT as a cornerback).

On Saturday against UConn, Williams finally got his shot on offense.

The dynamic returner was in the game for true freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava's first series in the second half. In fact, Williams was on the receiving end of Iamaleava's first pass of the game. Williams took a touch pass from Iamaleava 11 yards for a quick first down (Nico missed Williams on his only other target).

After the game, Heupel told reporters that Williams will continue to receive chances on offense.

“I planned on playing him last week, too," said Heupel when asked about Williams. "Just the way things unfolded, some of the structure stuff, weren’t prepared to get him in the game in the situations that we were in. He’s continued to grow and has a real grasp of a lot of what we’re doing offensively. So the opportunity was there this week to play him and anticipate doing that moving forward.”

It sound like Williams will continue to be part of the Vols' offense in specific situations. And now that he's received some chances during a game, teams will have to prepare for him when he's on the field (which means he can be used as a decoy, too).

The Vols' offense is coming together at the right time of the season. And it feels like we're going to see more explosive plays in the passing game, like the ones fans because accustomed to seeing last season, during the final few weeks of the season.
