Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow didn't explicitly say it, but he definitely hinted that Cincy was sending a message to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night with a decision that was made to start the game.

After the Bengals' 24-18 win against the Bills on Sunday, Burrow was asked by a reporter about Cincinnati's decision to take the ball to start the game after winning the coin toss.

Typically, though not always, teams defer their choice to the second half when winning the toss.

Burrow hinted that the decision to take the ball was a message to the Bills.

"I always prefer to take the ball, I guess depending on the opponent and how they play," said Burrow. "But I was feeling good about that today."

A reporter followed up that statement from Burrow by asking "Did you see that (taking the ball) as a message to take it first in this game particularly?"

"Maybe, it's tough to say," said Burrow with a familiar shrug.

It was a subtle moment. And Burrow clearly wasn't trying to give the Bills any bulletin board material (a rematch in the playoffs is always possible). But it seems pretty obvious that Cincinnati was looking to send a message to the Bills by taking the ball first and scoring (which is exactly what the Bengals did, via an incredibly efficient opening drive).

So what was the message?

That's up for debate. But I imagine it was a combination of "we're going to put pressure on you and make you react to what we do" and "we're the aggressors, not you".

Message sent. Message delivered.

By the way, Burrow is now 2-0 against Bills QB Josh Allen.
