This offseason, the Las Vegas Raiders and superstar running back Josh Jacobs disagreed. Jacobs wanted a long-term extension with the Raiders, but the old regime didn't want to pay him that much because running backs don't have very long shelf lives.
Jacobs skipped training camp and all mandatory workouts before it. Then, he and the Raiders agreed to a one-year deal worth more money than he had previously received.
One could say that the rift between the two in the summer could have fractured Jacobs's relationship with the Raiders. What we recently heard during Sunday Night Football against the New York Jets almost clarifies that for us.
During the broadcast, we were informed that Jacobs said that Antonio Pierce becoming the head coach made Jacobs feel like he could return next season for the first time this season.
First, that is both good and bad. It shows how fractured that relationship was and how guys didn't want to keep playing for Josh McDaniels. In a way, it also shows that the decision to fire Josh McDaniels was long overdue.
Jacobs started the season rough. He wasn't great, and the run game as a whole wasn't great. Things just weren't clicking. However, he has been nearly unstoppable since Antonio Pierce and Bo Hardegree took over. He has had basically 100 rushing yards in the last two games. He had 100 against the New York Giants, but late in the game, he was stopped for a loss of two yards, so he ended with 98. And, against the Jets, he had 117.
The run game is getting going, and just like that, Josh Jacobs is third in the league in rushing and is happy once again.
Antonio Pierce is already making Raiders’ history
