The Kansas City Chiefs know that their wide receiver group has underperformed this season relative to expectations.

They also know that the words are getting stale.

There are only so many times that Chiefs HC Andy Reid can stand up in front of media members and reassure them that the receiver group is making strides. Especially when those improvements have rarely shown up outside of the practice field.

On Thursday, ahead of Week 11's "Monday Night Football" clash with the Philadelphia Eagles, Reid stood in front of reporters again. This time he addressed the pessimism that has often followed around his answers about the receiver room.

"They're getting better as we go," Reid said. "I know it's hard to see, but they're getting better. We'll just see how it goes forward. Anything I say isn't going to mean anything unless they continue to improve (on the field). But we're seeing improvement, we've just got to keep it going."

For Patrick Mahomes, the wide receiver struggles have been more about just the natural progression with a group that is featuring some new pieces in new roles. He knows what the fans want to see on a weekly basis, but he knows that he needs to be patient with the growth process as well.

"I've always felt that throughout the season, the chemistry gets better and better," Mahomes said. "Obviously, everybody wants the receivers to blow up and everything like that. But I think the guys have gotten better as the season has gone on and they're getting better. We're making strides in the right direction and hopefully, we'll keep doing that as the season goes and carry that momentum into the playoffs."

The receivers will get a chance to make their presence felt on Monday night against a Philly team that has struggled at times in the defensive secondary. This Week 11 game could well play a big part in shifting the narrative in Kansas City as the team seeks to prove that they're the best in the NFL.
