Arguably the biggest news to come out of Week 1 is the unfortunate news that New Yorks Jets quarterback probably tore his Achilles against the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football.
Rodgers played just four snaps before exiting the game on a cart and in a walking boot. Jets head coach Robert Saleh said after the game the team is concerned with the Achilles, which means Rodgers is done for the year if it is in fact that type of injury.
“[We're] concerned with his Achilles … It’s not good," said Saleh.
And, as a direct result, the Green Bay Packers will miss out on a first-round pick in 2023.
If Rodgers played 65% of the Jets' offensive snaps in 2023, then the 2023 second-rounder the Packers received as part of the trade back in April would've moved up to a first-rounder. Depending on how the Jets' season played out, that could've been a major, major upgrade.
But now, it's no more.
It's all negative, though. The Packers have made some pretty good decisions in the second round since 2018, outside of cornerback Josh Jackson. That includes this year's duo of Luke Musgrave and Jayden Reed, as well. So, they should still make good use of that extra second.
But, still, having an extra first would've been icing on the cake.
Three winners after Packers’ blowout win over Bears
These guys played a big role in Sunday’s win, so let’s celebrate them.
