As the Carolina Panthers' identity remains unknown and the team remains winless, a new problem has emerged — Frank Reich.

In the Panthers' 21-13 Week 4 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, Reich admitted that he called a play for a veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen when he wasn't on the field.

“I called a play for Thielen,” he said. “And then, I realized he was out. And I didn’t know he was out fast enough. It was a play that could only go to Thielen. So, I had to change the call. And that was the one we had to call a timeout on.”

The play call happened in the second quarter. By that point, the Panthers' offense was already struggling.

The Panthers couldn't move the ball for the third time in four weeks. Rookie quarterback Bryce Young was under pressure most of the game. And to no one's surprise, Young didn't throw a single touchdown pass in Sunday's contest.

He did get strip-sacked late in the third quarter, giving all the momentum to the Vikings, who never looked back. Frankly, they never had to with how poor the Panthers' offense has appeared.

After the game, Reich managed to blame the defense that held Minnesota to two touchdowns if not for the strip sack.

Really, Reich should be the one taking the blame. He said this week was about proving what they could do by taking action. It must be hard for a coach to take action when he doesn't know who is and isn't on the field.
