The 0-2 start is not ideal for the Chicago Bears and stings even more considering the amount of preseason expectations the team built for themselves.

However, in the grand scheme of things, this never seemed like this year would be the year the Bears would finally turn the corner after finishing dead last the season before.

The process set in place by general manager Ryan Poles is still in motion, enough though it's admittedly going painfully slow.

"We have adversity right now," Poles said while addressing the status of the organization on Thursday. "Slow start, 0-2, not where you want to be. The beautiful thing about our organization is: we're solution-minded."

Ahead of the Bears' Week 3 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, future Hall of Fame head coach Andy Reid voiced his support for what Poles is building in Chicago.

“I’m a big Ryan Poles fan, I think he’s good. He needs time," Reid said while talking to the media on Wednesday. "That’s what it takes to do what he’s being asked to do. He’s gotten in there and grinded like crazy and made changes that look like they’re pretty good players.”

Poles spent 13 seasons with the Chiefs front office, working his way up from Player Personnel Assistant to Executive Director of Player Personnel in 2021. On January 25, 2022, he joined the Chicago Bears as the team's seventh general manager in franchise history.

Poles has been alongside Reid since 2013 and spent five seasons working with Chiefs general manager Brett Veach. He's watched firsthand and helped facilitate the transformation in Kansas City that turned the team into a Championship Dynasty.

When he was hired in Chicago, expectations were that he would bring over some of the lessons he learned with the Chiefs and apply it to the Bears. Unfortunately, the hardest part of facilitating the rebuild of a franchise is handling the patience of the fanbase.

Poles has only been given 604 days and the wheels are already starting to wobble on his chair from the pressure he's received. As coach Reid said, it takes time to do what Poles is trying to do in Chicago.

It should also be clear that mistakes will be made along the way. Rebuilds to not happen overnight and in the case of the Bears, it could take a while. There are certainly hotter seats within the Bears organization and once the right decisions are made, the entire team can continue moving forward.

“No one in our building is panicking,” Poles added. “Nobody is flinching at any situations. Not our owner. Not our president. Not our head coach. Not myself. None of our players. Everybody is focusing on solving the issues we have so we can become a better football team.”
