Tennessee Vols head coach Josh Heupel was asked on Wednesday during the SEC coaches teleconference what his message is to UT fans ahead of a home game against against UTSA on Saturday.

Heupel acknowledged that UTSA is a good football team before detailing the role that Tennessee fans can play on Saturday afternoon in Neyland Stadium as the Vols look to rebound from their loss last weekend against the Florida Gators.

“First of all, this is a really good football team," said Heupel. "They’re proud, they’re competitive, they’re tough, they’re physical, they’re coached well. And they have really good players in all three phases of the football game. It will be important for us that we show up with the right mindset and competitive spirit [and] that we compete really hard."

“As always, man, our stadium is as good as anywhere, if not the best in the country," added Heupel. "I know our fans are disappointed in last week’s performance. But at the end of the day, we’re going to need them on Saturday. I expect Vol Navy to be packed and I expect 35,000 at the Vol Walk. Once that ball is kicked off, the energy inside the stadium is going to important. We need to make it as tough of a road environment as we possibly can. Our fans are consistent, they do that every week.”

UTSA is looking to get back on the right track after starting with a 1-2 record this season (UTSA won 23 games from 2021 to 2022). But they know it won't be easy. UTSA head coach Jeff Traylor said earlier this week that he knows his team will be encountering an "angry and upset" Vols team on Saturday in Knoxville.

Tennessee and UTSA kick off at 4:00 PM ET on Saturday. The game will air on the SEC Network.
