One of the Tennessee Vols' top 2025 recruiting targets is five-star store quarterback George MacIntyre.

MacIntyre, 6-foot-5/182 lbs from Brentwood, TN, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 2 quarterback in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Tennessee.

The Vols are battling Alabama and LSU for MacIntyre, though the feeling has been that Tennessee is the favorite to land the talented quarterback with Alabama running in second.

LSU, however, appears to be a legitimate threat to secure a commitment from MacIntyre according to 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong.

MacIntyre recently took a visit to LSU, which reportedly went extremely well for the Tigers.

Wiltfong, who noted that MacIntyre is looking to commit in late December/early January, pointed out that MacIntyre has a great relationship with LSU quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan. While Wiltfong acknowledged that sources close to MacIntyre's recruitment believe the Vols will win out, he also suggested that he wouldn't be surprised if MacIntyre lands in Baton Rouge.

From 247Sports: There are sources around the recruitment that think the Vols win out in the end, but there is no question that MacIntyre loves Sloan, enjoys being on the Tigers campus, and is stoked about the offense and way they develop passers. My Crystal Ball is on LSU for (Bryce) Underwood, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think it couldn’t be MacIntyre when all said and done for the Tigers in this 2025 cycle.

One thing working in Tennessee's favor is that it appears five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 recruiting class, is LSU's top target. And if he commits to LSU as expected, it would turn the battle for MacIntyre into a two-team race between Tennessee and Alabama.

If Tennessee is unable to land MacIntyre (though for now, MacIntyre still appears to be trending toward the Vols), they could pivot to four-star quarterback Madden Iamaleava, the younger brother of Vols quarterback Nico Iamaleava. Madden is rated as the No. 10 quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class.
