For the first time in 30 seasons, Kansas City Chiefs fans who tune into the game on radio broadcast won't be hearing Mitch Holthus' signature "Touchdown Kan-sas City" call during the game on Sunday night.

Holthus took to the app formerly known as Twitter to inform Chiefs Kingdom that he'd be sidelined for the Week 13 game against the Green Bay Packers due to COVID-19. He tested positive for the virus on Friday and with the game being in Wisconsin, there was simply no possible way for him to safely travel to call the game.

"Okay Kingdom it has been a challenging 60+hours. Early Friday morning I tested positive for Covid. 2023 protocol calls for 5 day quarantine. I appreciate EVERYONE who spent most of the day Friday trying to figure out how I could broadcast this game 2020 studio style & if it was home game could maybe have had isolated booth. But no way to pull it off on road-and would NEVER put ANYONE in that travel party in jeopardy-especially those who are immune compromised-so 30 season 503 game NFL streak gets interrupted-and counting my college work prior-43 seasons without miss until tonight -so let’s go Kingdom and win this game. We will start a new streak next week!"

Holthus has called every game for the Chiefs for the past 30 NFL seasons and had a consecutive streak of 503 games called. That streak will now be broken by something that Holthus has no control over.

Ari Wolfe is filling in for Holthus on the Chiefs Radio Network, per Chiefs Digest's Matt Derrick. Wolfe has handled play-by-play on preseason games in Kansas City since 2019 alongside Trent Green.

While it won't be the same without hearing Holthus' iconic calls, the entirety of Chiefs Kingdom is wishing him well.
