The Buffalo Bills (6-6) not only entered the bye week with a really gross taste in their mouth, they received troubling news about star pass rusher, Von Miller. In all, it wasn't necessarily the peaceful break the team was looking for.
But, they did receive some good news on Monday after Sunday's Week 13 slate of games. Some big names, particularly the Kansas City Chiefs (8-4), went down in big fashion and it ultimately helped the Bills' chances of making the playoffs.
Per The Athletic, Buffalo is one of 15 teams that saw its playoff chances increase after Sunday. Josh Allen and co. boasted the seventh-highest percentage increase at 2.0%, as well.
It may be small, but the Bills need every bit of help they can get after what has been a tumultuous season, to say the least.
It all starts in Week 14 against the Chiefs
Speaking of the Chiefs, that's who the Bills play next. And as you can imagine, the playoff implications are enormous.
The Bills simply can't afford to fall to 6-7 on the year. The top-8 teams in the AFC playoff race have just five losses, while the ninth place Broncos have six. A seventh Bills loss would drop them to three games out of the picture with four games left on the docket. Assuming all of the teams in front of them win, of course. And it's a three-game deficit because the Houston Texans, the current No. 8 seed with a 7-5 record, holds the conference record tiebreaker over the Bills.
The Broncos hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Bills thanks to their Week 10 win.
Buffalo is certainly going to need a lot of help in order to make the postseason. But if they can overcome the dumb mistakes and if Sean McDermott can get his late-game management together, then they definitely have a shot to make some major magic happen over the final five weeks of the season.
