When the Cleveland Browns needed someone to answer the call, Joe Flacco got off his couch and played.

Now, a few weeks into the Flacco experience, Browns coaches are impressed with how the 38-year-old Comeback Player of the Year candidate has guided Cleveland's offense thus far.

"He's getting back into the groove," Alex Van Pelt, the Browns' offensive coordinator, said. "He's starting to feel confident in the play calls. And it showed. Whatever rust he had, it's knocked off now. He's playing at a high level. I like the way he's seeing the field."

Clevenad Browns' trust in Joe Flacco

Nothing shows Cleveland's trust in Flacco like the 89 pass attempts in the two games the veteran has been the starter.

In those games, Flacco's lines were the following:

  • Vs. Los Angeles Rams: 254 yards, two touchdowns, 23-44 attempts, 52.3% completion, 75.4 passer rating.

  • Vs. Jacksonville Jaguars: 311 yards, three touchdowns, 26-45 attempts, 57.8% completion, 92 passer rating.

Cleveland is looking to build off two strong showings from Flacco, and Van Pelt believes it can happen in Week 15.

"This shows Joe how much confidence we have in him," Van Pelt said. "He's going to read the field and make the throws."

Flacco isn't the long-term answer for the Browns at quarterback. That remains Deshaun Watson. But he has been a pleasant surprise. And arguably, at times, he has played better than Watson in the same system offensive system.

Now Cleveland will be relying on Flacco again for a Week 15 matchup with the Chicago Bears, who have found life recently.
