Kansas City Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco won't be suiting up against the New England Patriots in Week 15 because he had surgery on his injured shoulder earlier this week.
Chiefs HC Andy Reid confirmed to reporters on Friday afternoon that Pacheco underwent surgery on his injured shoulder. This is the second surgery that he's had on that shoulder in 2023 after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum this offseason. He played through Super Bowl LVII with that specific injury.
While the injury sounds doom and gloom, the news that Reid had to report isn't all bad. The timeline for Pacheco's return doesn't seem to be that much altered after news of the surgery.
"(Isiah) Pacheco had surgery on his shoulder," Reid said. "He had some things taken out that were 'floaters' in there, but he's doing well. He's moving around well. We anticipate getting him back next week.`
Pacheco hasn't played since the Week 13 game against the Green Bay Packers. He suffered the latest shoulder injury, then described as a contusion, during that Week 13 loss.
Reid described the procedure on Pacheco's shoulder as a "clean-up" and seems to expect him back in some capacity next week ahead of a Week 16 matchup on Christmas Day with the surging Las Vegas Raiders.
"Yeah, I mean he did the walkthroughs with us," Reid said. "He should be back going next week."
For now, the Chiefs will rely on veterans Jerick McKinnon and Clyde Edwards-Helaire to hold down the fort.
