The San Francisco 49ers have promoted two players from their practice squad as they. prepare to face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 15.
San Francisco has brought up interior defensive lineman T.Y. McGill and running back Jeremy McNichols to the gameday roster.
McGill's elevation, his first this season, was widely expected with both the 49ers' starting defensive tackles, Arik Armstead and Javon Hargrave, out through injury.
McNichols is elevated for the second successive week, taking the place of Elijah Mitchell, the second-string tailback who is once again out because of a knee problem.
San Francisco did not elevate veteran cornerback Jason Verrett, whom they signed to the practice squad this week. That may not be a surprise given Verrett's limited practice time, but it potentially points to number one corner Charvarius Ward being available despite a groin injury.
Ward, who was injured on the 49ers' first defensive series in last week's win over the Seattle Seahawks, did not practice all week but was listed as questionable. He leads the NFL with 20 pass breakups.
