The Cleveland Browns are keeping one of their best defenders around for years to come.

This morning news broke that the Browns were giving S Grant Delpit a contract extension. That extension is going to keep him with the team for three additional seasons.

According to Brad Stainbrook of theOBR, Delpit received a 3-year extension with the Browns for $36 million. In terms of guaranteed money, it is north of $23 million.

At $12 million a season, Delpit comes in as the 12th highest-paid strong safety in the NFL, according to OverTheCap. That deal is a steal for Cleveland, as there are not 11 better strong safeties in the NFL than the 25-year-old Delpit.

Delpit is enjoying a breakout season for the Browns and leads them in tackles with 74 tackles. The former LSU standout has an interception and fumble recovery on the season too.

Last season, Delpit had four interceptions for the Browns. After suffering an Achilles injury and missing the entire first year of his career in 2020, the Browns safety has gradually blossomed into the player they thought he could be.

Keeping your own talent around that you draft and develop is key in the NFL. The Browns just did that. It will not only be well accepted in the locker room, but Delpit is well-liked by the fan base too.
