Former Tennessee Vols standout Derek Barnett was released by the Philadelphia Eagles last week, but he already has a new home.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday that the Houston Texans claimed Barnett off waivers.
Schefter also reported that the Texans nearly traded for Barnett ahead of the trade deadline last month.
Barnett was selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft after a terrific career at Tennessee which ended with the Nashville native breaking Reggie White's sack record in his final game with the Vols (the 2016 Music City Bowl).
The former Vol has dealt with numerous injuries throughout his career which has prevented him from reaching his full potential.
Houston, however, clearly sees something they like in Barnett after targeting him last month. Barnett has appeared in eight games this season for the Eagles, though he's totaled just three tackles. He has 21.5 sacks in his career.
