The New Orleans Saints will battle the Detroit Lions in Week 13. It's an extremely tough matchup against one of the top teams in the NFC for New Orleans.
Not to mention, the Lions will have some extra motivation. Head coach Dan Campbell spent a lot of time as an assistant in New Orleans with the Saints. One of their key defensive players did, too.
Alex Anzalone was drafted by the Saints in 2017, but he joined the Lions in free agency in 2021. Unfortunately, he's currently dealing with an injury.
According to sources, Anzalone will probably miss Sunday's game against the Saints with a hand injury.
Campbell and the staff expect the linebacker to miss some time. It sounds unlikely that he will be available for the Lions this weekend.
Anzalone totaled 123 tackles in four seasons with New Orleans as a depth linebacker and key special teams player. He also recorded eight TFLs, four sacks, and three forced fumbles in his Saints tenure.
His role has increased with the Lions. He's flourished in their system, totaling 290 tackles and 5.5 sacks in three years with Detroit.
The Saints have replaced Anzalone well with players like Pete Werner and Kaden Elliss over the past couple of seasons, but he is a very impressive linebacker at this point of his career.
Anzalone would assuredly like to get some revenge on his previous team on Sunday, but it sounds like he will be forced to miss the matchup against the Saints.
